Even though I'm at hospice today, I've set this to post at noon time. This was fun!
Photobucket
1. Robins have red breasts. Why are their eggs blue?
Why is the sky blue?

2. The doorbell buzzes at the same moment the phone rings. Who was on the phone?
My sister Jenny.

3. It seems that there are several very popular memes each day of the week. Which meme did you first become a regular of?
Saturday 9 and I'm glad because I met wonderful friends through it.

4. It is about time that Berleen and Kimber meet in person. Should we start a collection to fly one of them to the other, or just hope Thom's bus and get from Hawaii to Kimber in Arizona and take her to Berleen in Minnesota?
I just want to know how Thom is going to get his bus to the mainland.

5. Tell us about your pets. Do you have one that you wish would run away?
Well I have my Harley cat and I would be DEVASTATED if he ran away. He is my heart. My hubby has some koi fish in a tank that don't bother me. The only "pet" I'm not fond of is his turtle. He smells.

6. What was the last thing colored red that you wore?
I don't wear red. It is too bright. I like dark colors. I do wear maroon however. The last maroon thing I wore was my scrubs just the other day.

7. I have a train that runs by where I live several times a day. I actually find it peaceful. What's the longest journey that you have taken by train?
I went from Metropark (Iselin NJ) to Washington DC roundtrip. Luckily I was able to ride the Acela back when I worked for the travel agency. I only had to pay 25%. Too cool.

8. If Kimber threw a five dollar bill off a building that was five stories high, and Berleen threw a twenty off a build that was six stories high, who do you think would find the money?
The guy standing at the bottom of the building.

9. If reincarnation really happens, whose life would you like to know that you have already led?
Marilyn Monroe Pictures, Images and Photos

10. What are your three favorite possessions?
1. Photobucket
2. A tie between my car and my Keurig Coffee Maker
3. My cell phone

11. A lot of people still believe that Elvis is alive. Have you ever worn blue suede shoes?
I'm sorry, I'm still thinking about Elvis. Ahhhhhh......

12. Do you have siblings? If yes, are you anything alike?
Yes, I have two sisters and one brother. I think I'm most like my sister Jenny.

13. Has anyone ever asked you to strip naked and cluck like a chicken?

Happiness, Joy, & Some Sadness

Ladies and gentlemen, I am almost finished with my required number of "sticks". I am now doing them all by myself. Holy Moly Bud. I swear, last year I could sell you an airplane ticket. This year, I can draw your blood! I've drawn blood on a few occasions on three different people and they all said they didn't feel anything. So I guess that is good news! Seriously, I think I've "grown up" these past few months because I never in my life EVER thought I would enjoy phlebotomy. But I do. Ok, I'm weird.

We are also mastering injections. Intramuscular, intradermal, and subcutaneous. These poor oranges. My hands stink after I'm finished even with rubber gloves. I apologize to Florida Oranges and their counterparts.

Well, I do have some sad news. My patient on hospice passed away on Monday evening. Luckily, I was able to spend time with him and his family. I am able to speak a little about him because the family signed a release because this is going to be in our hospice newsletter. I just can't mention names or diagnosis. This gentleman was 80 years old and he was love. He wrote about a hundred poems over the course of his lifetime about his wife, his children, and life in general. The project I did was take all of them, sort them into some type of order, I typed them all up, added photos and printed them up and put them into a book for him. When he saw it, it brought tears to his eyes. I had to hold it up for him because he was too weak. But his sons and I read him the poems. He just kept saying "thank you, thank you, God bless you". This may have been the most rewarding experience. I had my doubts that "hospice" was my thing because it is a very sad time. But, in fact, it is a rewarding time because you are giving the patient peace and love. I don't know guys, but this may be where my heart really is. We shall see.

This past weekend was the last day that I saw him alive. I knew it was the end. When I got there, he was sitting up. He never sat up in my prescence. He asked if I could help him out of bed. In my mind, I was thinking that he was getting better. My heart knew differently. From what I learned during training was that this burst of energy meant it was the end. Normally one of his two sons were there when I went to his house. This time his nephew was there. To honor his request, we helped him out of bed, into his wheelchair, and pushed him out into his living room. He wanted us to open the door so he could get fresh air. The look on his face looked like we gave him a million dollars. He was in his living room, sitting up, looking around. He was so inquisitive. He absolutely loved it. Before I left, I was sitting with him. He always loved to hold my hand. His nephew came back into the room and said to him, "Look at you Uncle ____, you were always the ladies man." Too cute!

Before I left, I read him a poem that I made up for him. he told me over and over thank you and how beautiful it was. He told me that "all poems are treasures."

When I went to his wake last night, his sons and daughter were there. They all cried in my arms. I was a mess after the three of them did that. They couldn't thank me enough for the book that they said they "will treasure forever". After I spoke with the children, I went up to his coffin, he was finally at peace. Right next to his coffin on a pedestal was the book of poems. My heart almost bursted. His words will live on forever.

I will never forget his ice-blue eyes staring up at me when I read him poems. I will never forget the fraile hand that I held while we talked and while we prayed. I will never forget the smile that he gave me. Rest in peace my poetry friend.

I'm Back My Friends

I'm sorry it has taken me SO long to post. I am back my friends. Since last week I have been SO busy with school and hospice. I feel bad that I left you guys hanging. The doctor appointment last week went well. First of all, he was shocked when he saw me. He had to make sure he was in the right room. Since my last visit, I lost 163 pounds. The man actually hugged me. It was so cute. I actually cried on him because I thanked him for always respecting me. I guess I was very emotional. But, I really spoke to him from my heart. He diagnosed me with a sinus infection. The hoarseness is from post nasal drip. I must of relapsed or something because I still feel like crap. My voice still sounds like I should forget being a medical assistant and work as a 1-900 operator. LOL! I got a full work-up because he wanted to get a full assessment of "the new Jodi" which he kept calling me. I had to do blood work, urinalysis and an EKG. The MA thought it was funny because I wanted to put the leads on myself since I know how to do an EKG now. I thought it might of been too much if I asked her if I could draw my own blood. I guess I have to draw a line somewhere. LOL! Anyway, long story short...blood work came out fantastic. My blood pressure came down 14 points. I'm good to go. Now if I could just shake this sinus thing and get my voice back. Well, I am glad I am sick now and not for May 8th!!! Bloggy meet-up day in CT. (Bud...check your FB email when you have time. Bookkitten, I left you a post on FB too)

School has been so busy. Clinicals is alot more intense than the business part. Today we were doing injections on oranges. Fun, fun. I think I really have a pissed off orange though. I stuck it like 100 times. LOL! We had to do three kinds of different sticks. Hospice is going great. I am doing a project for a man that is on Hospice which is taking alot of time but is going to be so worth it. He and his family are going to love it. I wish I could say more about it but I can't because of the privacy policy.

Well my friends, I am off to go do some homework. I have loads of it. I also have a project due on the pacemaker for next week. I got my hands full for sure. I hope you are all well, healthy, and happy. Sorry I've been a stranger!!!

Under The Weather...

Hey Everyone! I just wanted you guys to know that I am still alive! LOL! However, I am currently under the weather. I've been sick all week. BUT..I am heading off to the doctor tomorrow. I'm not sure what it is. I have no voice. Which could be a good or bad thing..depends on who you ask. My eyes feel achy too. So, I'm not sure if it is just allergies or laryngitis or what. I'm switching my hospice day for Friday so I can go to the doctor. Get this..I'm actually going to TWO doctors tomorrow. My primary care and my gyno for my annual. I know, thanks for sharing. So, I will be miserable all around. I figure...might as not waste the day. Anyway...I will give you all an update hopefully tomorrow pending on how I feel. This whole week, I've gone to school, came home and went and laid down. I got up for an hour to watch LOST last night. (By the way...I will be hitting up BOTH doctors for jobs tomorrow. LOL!)

I will be back to reading and posting comments as soon as I can. I just wanted to give you guys an update so you knew why I've been missing in action. Hugs to you ALL!!!! And a special "HOLY MOLY" to my friend Bud!! ♥

It is truly amazing how much has transpired in the past year: being laid off but graciously been given a grant to go to school to change my career, my weight loss, and I have my lymphedema under control with compression stockings and night garments. I am truly blessed. Soooo, here is a funny link so I don't have to go back and remind myself of sad times...

Apparently, I'm Very Gentle...

I did it!! Twice so far. I've drawn blood from my "blood buddy" lab partner & friend Jessica and my other classmate & friend Melanie. They BOTH said they didn't feel a thing. I'm actually quite impressed with myself because I really thought I wasn't going to like doing it. I think it is actually cool. I make it into a game. Find The Vein. Jess' vein was pretty prominent. Mel is a hard stick. Her veins aren't as visible as Jess' are. But, I got her with one stick! My biggest fear was hurting them and they both said I didn't. Very cool. We have to do at least 3 more for our license. We're actually going to do more though for the practice.

Today is my husband Larry's 40th birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY HONEY! I got him a cake. We are actually going to celebrate tomorrow because he is off. I feel bad. He worked the graveyard shift last night and tonight. So tomorrow he will be exhausted. His hours truly suck.

If you can all say a prayer for my lab partner & friend Jessica. She was involved in a car accident yesterday right after school and it totaled her car. She was banged up pretty badly. The air bag deployed and hit her in the throat. Her arm has a huge gash on it, and her knee is pretty bruised up. Luckily no broken bones. She is just very sore. I turned off to go onto a different route right before it happened. Luckily Melanie was a few cars behind her and was able to stop and be with her until the cops & EMTs got there. This just happened at a very bad time. Her Mom is having a double masectomy on Monday. When it rain, it pours. (By the way, this is a new pic of me with Jess...We were trying to make weird faces. I succeeded. Got my blonde highlights back too)

I've been quiet because I have been so busy with school, hospice, homework, and papers. In June I'll be able to breathe again but then it will be Operation Job Hunt.

Hope you all enjoy your Easter weekend for those that celebrate.

Skin Punctures and Exam Results!

Are you all sitting down? See, I'm glad I was sitting down in our side classroom when my teacher gave me the results of my two exams because I really could have passed out. I seriously thought I just made it with a passing grade. I had no idea that I actually got TWO 100s!!!! When she showed them to me, the first question out of my mouth was, "Are you serious?" I always am so hard on myself. I am like St. Thomas who was a doubter.

Guess what today was!! My first needle prick! Ok, the technical term is: my first skin puncture!!! It was actually fun! This is what the lancet looked like. Not bad huh? Many of you may have seen these in your own doctor's office when they prick your finger. Alot of offices have the ones that have a trigger. We had to learn the old fashioned manual way so we will always be prepared. I have to do a certain amount with my lab partner/blood buddy Jessica. I stuck her only once. Tomorrow I think I am doing it twice. I couldn't believe I wasn't even nervous. There is a technique of doing it. It's all in the wrist. LOL AND...get this...she said I didn't hurt her.

Speaking of Jessica. Meet her. She is my heart. I am so glad that she is my lab partner. She is a great person. And, she didn't hurt me today. So she got points for that. Her and I have bonded in the past three months. As many of you know, I lost my Mom to lung cancer when I was 18yrs old. Jessica is only 19yrs old. Her Mom has breast cancer. So we have this connection. I kinda took her under my wing. She is a beautiful and strong young woman. God put us together for a reason. Plus, she gets ALL my jokes and constantly says, "Jodi, you're out of control!" Gee, wonder what gives her that impression. Hehehe

Guess what we start tomorrow?!?!?! VENIPUNCTURE. Phlebotomy. I'm going to actually draw blood. This time last year I was managing the travel agency. Closest thing I got to a sharp object was adding staples to the stapler or using a box cutter to open up a box of blank e-tickets. Lord have mercy on mine and Jessica's soul. This is what the needles/blood vacuum look like. I. Can. Do. This.

Lastly, did someone ever take a picture of you and you didn't even recognize yourself? I don't know if it is the weight loss or what. But, I don't think this looks like me. I'm not used to the new me yet. I know. I'm weird. LOL

Meeting Joel Osteen, My Exam, & Saturday 9..Oh My!!

Photobucket
Today was a very special day for me. God works in mysterious ways. Because of my exam on Wednesday, we didn't have to go to school on Thursday. SO..I did my Hospice externship all day on Thursday. I found out that Joel Osteen was appearing at the same Barnes & Noble as where we saw Jesse last week. They expected a big crowd. They were only guaranteeing 300 people to meet him and sign his book, "It's Your Time". I got there at 6am!! I know, stick a sticker on me and call me a lunatic. But, I just had to meet him. I've been listening to him for YEARS. I think since 2002. He reaches so many different denominations...Catholics like me, other Christians..etc. My nun friend watches him. The convent that she is in, they all gather together and watch him each week. How cute is that?

Because of the mass volume of people..they estimated 400 people showed up...100 more than were alloted for, we were only allowed to take pictures of him. He couldn't pose with us because of the time restrictions. But I got to talk to him. The entire time I spoke to him, he held my hand. It was just bizarre hearing his voice and having him right in front of me after listening to him for so long. He truly is a blessed man.

I also scored 2 tickets to his event this evening at The Meadowlands (Izod Center). They gave them to the first 20 people on line who already didn't have tickets. I was 10th on line because remember, I was a lunatic and went there at 6am. The people before me camped out from the night before so they were crazier than me! LOL Unfortunately with Larry's work schedule we couldn't go tonight. But, my wonderful friends Monica & Nat were able to go and I gave the tickets to them. They had a fabulous time. So my freezing my ass off paid off for everyone involved. Hopefully I will refrain from getting pneumonia.

My exam went well on Wednesday. I will know on Monday if I passed or not. Next week is another busy week. I have school all week plus my CPR certification was rescheduled for Thursday the 25th as we were snowed out for the last time. Then I also have Hospice.

Oh yes...and 3 more pounds are gone...Yay!! 154 buh-bye. A whole person. Holy Moly! LOL

Anyway, enough with my rambling...here is Saturday 9!!!!

1. How vein are you about how you look?
My veins AND arteries don't care I really am not VAIN because I am always too hard on myself. Even after losing so much weight, I still think 154 pounds ago. I guess it is a psychological thing.

2. When you were little what was your favorite TV show?
The Magic Garden, Sesame Street, and Mister Rogers Neighborhood.

3. If someone was going to make a movie or TV show about your life, who would play you and why?
Drew Barrymore because we are almost the same age. She is fun and she likes tattoos. Plus I think she is a great actress.

4. Who is your favorite Major League Baseball team? How about your favorite player?
The New York Yankees of course! My favorite player is/was Tino Martinez #24. He will always be my favorite Yankee. He is SO adorable. I'd take him right on first base! Did I just say that? How's that for honesty?

5. What is your favorite baseball-related movie?
Bull Durham

6. What is one lesson you have learned in the past year?
That even though life is hard and you get thrown alot of obstacles that you can get thrown some blessings too.

7. Tell us about one of your childhood memories.
OK Bud..this one is for you. This is more of a teen memory. When I was a senior in high school, my Mom was diagnosed with cancer. I was going to go away to the College of William & Mary but since she got diagnosed I wanted to stay home in NJ. So I instead went to travel school. It was night classes. Somehow I got a job as an agent before I graduated. So, I was working during the day and going to school at night 3 times a week. On the nights that I was off of school, after work I would meet my Mom at the Mall. She was unable to drive from being weak from her chemo & radiation. So during the day while I was at work, she took a bus to the Mall and would go to Nordstrom to listen to a man play the grand piano. She loved the piano so much and taught herself how to play by ear! We had hardly any money, but we would allow ourselves to eat in the little cafe next to where this man played. It was our time together. My favorite part of this memory was coming down the escalator and seeing her sitting in the chair near him, watching him, listening to him. She looked healthier and in less pain when she listened to this man. I remember getting tears in my eyes everytime I went down that escalator and saw her sitting there. For I knew I wouldn't have that many more Tuesdays and Thursdays nights with her. We made the best of them!!! We tried not to think about the cancer those evenings. When we got home, she would be so happy. Even though we were together every night...those nights were just so special.

8. How do you handle sticky situations? Do you have a method? If so, what is it?
I try to avoid sticky situations. They give me a belly ache.

9. Do you think people talk about you behind your back?
I honestly could care less. If they do, then they are cowards for not saying it to my face. Boy, I'm so honest today! LOL!

Monday Mayhem

Join Us for Monday Mayhem
Name something you do every day
These days: drink coffee, study, kiss Harley cat, sleep, rinse & repeat.

Name something someone else calls you
My hubby calls me Honey. My best friend calls me Ma. My very good friend and sister in heart calls me Mamaluke. Everyone else calls me Jodi, Jod, or Jo. Oh yes, I am also called Aunt Jodi or Aunt Jo.

Name something that irritates the heck out of you online.
Spam, pop-up ads even when you have a pop-up blocker, and when a webpage says "page cannot be displayed".

Name something that bugs the stuff out of you at a restaurant.
Screaming children, when people walk by your table and cough or sneeze without holding their mouth and/or nose, servers who never bring you the check or come back for the payment, servers who never come back to give you refills on your beverages, and lastly cold food or food that comes out wrong.

Name something you cannot tolerate at a store.
Long lines at any store. At supermarkets, when they have expired food on the shelf.

Name something you'd like to call your co-worker.
I wish I had a co-worker to call.

Name something that you hate about someone close to you.
Hmm? This is a tough question. OK, I got one. Now please, don't get me wrong, I am SO thankful that my husband still has his job. I just hate the fact that he works the graveyard shift and that he works so hard. His job is heavy labor and it is starting to take a toll on his body. He is going to be 40 next month. I don't know how much longer he is going to be able to do this.

Name something you don't like about your sibling.
I hate that my sister Jenny suffers from depression. She is one of the best and most beautiful people I know. She suffers so much from that disease and kidney problems. I just wish that she would be cut a break.

Name something you like about yourself.
That I have compassion.

Name something you would rather be doing right now.
I'm setting this up to post in the a.m. But, thinking about what I'd rather be doing at 5am...Sleeping! Since I get up at 4:30am when I'm in school.

Name something that you'll be doing next week at this time.
Since I'm setting this to post at 5am..I will be doing the same thing at 5am next Monday - getting ready to go to school.

Sunday Stealing: Judd's Merged Meme

OK, I'm going to be honest. There are alot of questions that I really don't feel comfortable answering. I guess it is just a matter of me wanting to keep my opinion to myself. What I'm going to do is post only the questions I feel comfortable answering. I hope you all understand.

1. What were doing 10 years ago?
I was managing the corporate travel agency I got laid off from in 2009.

2. Five snacks that you enjoy in a perfect, non weight-gaining world
Non-weight gaining...hmm? In that case: Doritos, Oreos, Smartfood popcorn, Ice cream, and Drakes Coffee cakes. On this diet I've been on: nonfat yogurt, sliced up red bell peppers, baby carrots, nonfat cottage cheese with pineapple, and baked Lays.

3. Five things you would do if you were a billionaire:
1. Create a chain of huge no-kill animal shelters
2. Buy Graceland
3. Buy homes and cars for my family and friends

4. Create a homeless shelter that also houses a daycare and school so parents can go look for work and not worry because their children would be cared for.
5. Save some money, donate some, and spend some.

4. Three of your habits:
1. Coffee addiction
2. Procrastination
3. Impatience

5. Five jobs that you've have had:
1. Corporate Travel Agent
2. Manager of travel agency
3. Bank teller (part-time)
4. Asst Manager of a small music store (part-time)
5. Associate at a video store

6. Five places that you've lived:
New Jersey :)

7. Five things that you did yesterday:
1. Went to a book signing
2. Studied for my exams
3. Made dinner
4. Went to the mall for a few hours after the book signing
5. Blogged

8. Five people you would want to get to know more about:
I'm listing some new followers that are all awesome people.
1. Julie
2. Kristen
3. Sheila

9. Abortion: for or against it?
Against it

10. Do you think the world would fail with a female president?
No

16. Should the alcohol age be lowered to eighteen?
No

17. Should the war in Iraq be called off?
Yes

18. Assisted suicide is illegal: do you agree?
Yes

19. Do you believe in spanking your children?
I don't have children ;)

20. Do you worry that others will judge you from reading some of your answers?
It's not that I fear people would judge me, I'd just rather keep some things private. Normally I'm an open book. Depends on the subject I suppose.

Saturday 9 & Book Signing Pics

Today Larry and I went to meet for the second time, former Governor of Minnesota and famed wrestling legend Jesse Ventura. He was doing a discussion and book signing of his new book, "American Conspiracies". His speech before the signing was very interesting. He is a very nice man. He gabbed with my husband about The Grateful Dead because Larry was wearing a tshirt with their logo on it.

It was something different to do today. I really should be studying though. But, since Larry finally has Saturdays off, we didn't want to stay in the house all day. We've waited 15yrs to spend Saturdays together!!!

Ok..onto Saturday 9...

1. Are you the type of person who jumps into new ventures or do you prefer baby steps?
Just like in the movie "What About Bob?"..."baby steps for Jodi.

2. Who do you feel believes in you the most?
My sister Jenny

3. When was the last time you were on a stage?
We established last week my fright of stage curtains. Must you remind me?

4. Tell us about the worst boss you ever had.
Honestly, I have never really had a bad boss. Some were not very good with raises. Other than that, I've been lucky.

5. If the NCAA Men's or Women's Final Four basketball tournament was played in your hometown arena or within easy driving distance from where you live, would you try to attend one the three games?
No, I don't watch basketball. Bud can have my tickets.

6. Of all the clothes you own, what do you feel most comfortable wearing, and why?
A long sleeve t-shirt from my University because it actually fits. I don't have that many clothes because of the weight loss. I can't really afford new stuff so I have just a few things. This shirt fits, it is warm and comfy.

7. On what television show—either past or present—would you like to make to make a guest appearance, and what role would you play?
Present show - "LOST". I would play myself and somehow manage to get on the island and be Josh "Sawyer" Holloway's new love interest.

8. St. Patrick's Day is on Wednesday March 17th. Do you celebrate and wear green? Drink Green Beer? Ignore it?
Well, next Wednesday is my huge mid-term exam AND my partial national exam for my class. I will probably be crying green tears from fright. Hmm? I guess to celebrate, I will wear my green scrub top to school. I don't have the matching scrub pants because my husband made fun of me and said I looked like I was in the show M*A*S*H. So I normally wear it with black scrub bottoms. He has a comment about each one...when I wear the brown, I look like a UPS driver and when I wear the navy blue, I look like a janitor. And I digress. What's the question again? LOL

9. If a leprechaun told you that you could have any amount of money from his pot of gold but it had to be a specified amount for a specified item, how much would you ask for and what would it be for?
Hmm? Since I have a ticking time bomb with owning a Toyota Corolla, I would ask this said leprechaun for about $25K for a new car for something other than a Toyota. Either that or if said leprechaun was feeling very generous, I'd ask for $350K for a nice condo. (NJ is very expensive!)

Feel Good Friday

TGIF!! That's all I have to say! It has been a long week for sure. I left Hospice early today so I can study for my mid-term and partial national exam. It is next Wednesday! And what am I doing? Blogging! I figured I'd drop by quick to say hello and to wish you all a good weekend. I will be busy studying. I have SO much to go over. I'm really excited though. I'm almost at my 100 hours of externship at Hospice already! I think I am going to go past it and keep going until my program is over. I figure it will give me more experience and look better on my resume. I will be branching out to an in-patient unit and several skilled nursing facilities.

PhotobucketBefore I sign off, I would like to take a moment to share how saddened I was to hear about Merlin Olsen's passing. He was such a large part of my childhood in shows such as: Little House On The Prairie, Father Murphy, and Aaron's Way. I know for many he was a famed football player but for me, he was a wonderful actor who played alot of inspirational characters. May he rest in peace.

I will see you all tomorrow for Saturday 9!! Wonder what Sam has in store for us this week!
