Last Two Days

Boy, what a day yesterday was! My sister, the one who had the kidney stent removed about three weeks ago, she was fine for 1 week and then for 2 weeks has been in agony...with pain in her side. She went to the urologist because they found she had an infection - they thought that the stent didn't work. He thought it was her gallbladder because where he pressed on the area it hurt her real bad. So he wanted to rule out that it was the gallbladder before assuming it was the kidney. Well he sent her for an ultrasound yesterday morning. She came home from it and when she got home he was on the answering machine saying radiology called him and it turned out there was a stone or something stuck in her common bile duct/gallbladder area & she would need emergency surgery to get to the ER and he would recommend a specialist go to her. Well I left work immediately and met her at the ER. I left work at 1pm and didn't get home till 10pm. Turns out, we had to wait in the ER for hours and then once we get into the bed of the ER that's when the specialist could be called. She had to be seen by the ER doctor first. Ugh! She got in the ER bed at 6pm, and into admitted at 8pm. They gave her a pain-killer to relieve the pain and said her testing would be done this morning. One positive thing, all that waiting...she actually got a private room!

This morning she had a 3hr scan done & it was inconclusive. They said something along the lines of it being either an obstruction in her common bile duct or an infection of the common bile duct. They actually released her this evening (which I think is crazy) with a big prescription of percocets. She will have an MRI done next week as an outpatient because that is the best way to determine the exact problem. She may also have to get an endoscopy.

That is pretty much my last 2 days. I am just very concerned because I don't want to see her in anymore pain. She went through hell with the kidney stent...now this. I wish I could take some of the pain for her.

Sorry to hear about your sister. I hope that the MRI finds whatever it is that is causing her so much pain.
I will say a prayer for her.

You have been through a lot. She is blessed to have a sister who loves her like you do. I think patients are sent home way too soon all the time.
