Wow! It is good to be home!! Like the title of my post? (think Elvis..hehehe)
Today I'm feeling good except for my shin. It feels like someone hit it with a sledgehammer. The infection was the worst in that spot. Actually, it probably originated in that spot. Right now I have alot of pain and swelling there. The doctor said that it could be reduced with the help of the oral antibiotic that he prescribed. It is a much smaller area. Since it was the entire calf before, that is why they had to keep me. It could only be treated with IV antibiotics.
Again, I want to thank everyone who offered their prayers, support, comments, good thoughts, emails, etc. I really appreciate it. It means SO much to me.
Below is a picture of the flowers & stuffed animals I got while I was in the hospital. It was taken on my cell camera phone so the quality isn't too great. The beautiful basket on the right was from Sue & her sister Dianne. Isn't it beautiful?!?! The doggie stuffed animal with red hearts was from my hubby! ♥
Below is a photo of the balloons that I received. Everything was so sweet and such a nice surprise. I kept them right near the window next to my bed.
Moments that happened to me during my stay:- In the ER, while high on morphine, I started singing (from what I was told) the theme song to The Magic Garden. When people came in my little "curtain" area, I proceeded to ask them if they knew The Magic Garden and if they wanted to hear my rendition of the song.
- I was in the ER for many, many hours. They knew I was being admitted at an early hour, but they were waiting for my room assignment. They brought me a plate so I could eat something. There is one thing I don't eat and that is pork chops. I had an "incident" with one when I was 7yrs old and I haven't had one since. Let's just say when I was under the influence of morphine, they brought me a pork chop. Sue was on the phone with me when this happened and witnessed my display of not wanting a pork chop. From what I understand I demanded something else. I blame the morphine.
- My leg was absolutely killing me, but my ass hurt almost as much. The gurneys that they use have about a 2 inch pad. It has to be the most uncomfortable thing ever. I kept quoting the comedian Brian Regan when people kept saying "How do you feel?". I would reply, "I'm on a gurney!". LOL!
- One recommendation I want to give all of you is if you ever get admitted to a room ask them to give you the bed by the window. It is much roomier and usually next to the bathroom. It was also nice for my visitors because there was space. When I first got my room assignment, I was by myself in the room. My roommate didn't come until 2am. They automatically gave me the room near the door. Very conveniently I told them I was claustrophobic and they changed me to the other bed. Yay! My hubby stayed the first two nights with me & slept on a "recliner". If I was in the first bed, that wouldn't have been possible.
- I had a very nice roommate. She was a 60yr old woman who had an really bad infection of a gland in her neck and salivary gland. Her neck was SO swollen. I felt bad for her because her husband would come and visit her for an hour each day and then leave. Her kids both showed up only once each and they stayed an hour. She would sit there and cry because she said her family didn't care about her. It took 5 days for her daughter-in-law to call her to see how she was feeling because she was "too busy." At one point they had to give her blood pressure meds because her top number was 225 after she got off the phone with her DIL. I felt bad for her. But, I have to say, I had a few funny moments with her. Her & her family have been in the US for about 37yrs. They were from Jordan and spoke Arabic. Her English was pretty good, but it was hard to understand her on the phone or when she called for the nurse. They would ask you what you needed over the loud speaker. If she needed the bathroom it would phonetically sound like this: "I needa de baht ta rooooom." They would ask her three times, "What?" Finally I would yell over, "she needs to use the bathroom!"
- Another roommate funny. Sometimes the people who would come to take our meal orders didn't show up so we had to call down to the nutrition office and order over the phone. They had such a hard time understanding her so I would call for her and ask her what she wanted when they gave me the choices. For example, "Do you want meatloaf, baked fish, baked chicken, or a grilled cheese sandwich?" She would reply "Yes." I would say, no you need to pick one and she would say "Yes." My sisters and my hubby were trying to contain their laughter. Thank God we had the curtain closed. I was very patient with her, but thinking back to it now, it was funny.
I want to thank my hubby and my sisters for taking such good care of me when I was in the hospital. They came everyday, You can't even imagine how much the love you showed me help me recover. A special thank you to Jenny for feeding her nephew Harley cat while I was there. She went out of her way, more than once a day to help me and help him. I cannot tell you how much I love you & how much what you did meant to me.
I will be catching up with my regular blogs a little later on. This post was a long one. I have to go and elevate my leg for a little while. I'll be back my friends!

yay! You are home at last! That's a long stay & especially a long time to hold back all your heavy blogging tendencies! Your fingers must have been twitching in your sleep! Glad they caught the infection & you are better.
Welcome back! Glad you're feeling better. I was hospitalized four years ago with a nasty case of the flu, and it wasn't pretty. I read your post and thought, "Yep, been there, done that!"
Are you a Magic Garden fan as well? Do you have the new DVD? I wrote a couple of posts in November about Carole and Paula. When you get a chance, feel free to wander over and take a look-see. One of them's titled "pardon us, the garden-us is where we'll be..."
Good to have you back! Hope that leg gets better soon!
YEA! You're back. Alive and kicking. It must be SO good to be home.
YEA!!! Welcome back Jodi. Keep taking care of that leg so it doesn't get bad again! I missed you!
Don't worry about Nablopomo or 365...I think you have a good excuse. No doctor's note needed :)

Welcome back Jodi! Glad you are feeling better! Hugs my friend!
Welcome back Jodi! Nice to hear you're out of the hospital and have a few tales to tell. I'm glad you're feeling better! :D
The flowers and balloons are beautiful. I feel bad for your roommate. I would hate to have a DIL like that and feel like my family didn't care. I hope that isn't the case when I have my little one. But then again, people always come to see babies.
I hope ALL the pain is gone soon. You poor thing. Way to be strong in getting through it. I am glad you are in the comfort of your own home.
Welcome back!! I missed reading your Blog. Take care of yourself and within no time you'll be dancing a jig.
Jodi ho wlong did you spend snuggling with Harley when you got home?
I love the doggie from the hubby, great choice!
Being in the hospital sucks but sometimes roommates can give you a good laugh or two to get you through the event and even better about the support from your hubby and sister, WOW! :)
Good grief! I was just here a couple of days ago, and now I come back to this?? Oh, Jodi, I'm so sorry you've been through this. You sound like you're doing OK emotionally now, though, since you can laugh at the morphine experience. I hope and pray all heals soon. Geez, miss a day, miss a lot.
