UPDATE: Good News!! 44 Pound Cat Has New Home

I just wanted you all to know who have been following the story along with me, the 44 pound cat will be moving in next week with his new owners!! His test results came back and he doesn't have diabetes nor a thyroid condition. The vet has prescribed him a diet.

I'm so glad good came of this and that he is safe & will go to a loving family who already has 2 cats. Here's hoping the transition is OK for him and that the other cats take to him quick. This poor cat has been through enough in the past two weeks!

BLACKWOOD - After being declared a victim of the economy, a 44-pound catthat received national attention is now looking forward to a new home.

"Prince Chunk," a 10-year-old male cat, was found in Voorhees after his
former owner lost her home to foreclosure. He has since been seen on national
television programs such as "Regis and Kelly" and "Good Morning America.

"The Camden County Animal Shelter has received more than 500 adoption applications
for the cat - called "Powder" by his former owner - and has finally found a
family for him. "Powder has not yet been officially adopted," explained Catherine
Harr, president of the shelter's board of directors.

"An adoptive home for him has been chosen and the adoption will be completed next week."Choosing a family out of hundreds of applicants was no easy task."For Powder, we looked for a stable home where he would be guaranteed not to be displaced again due to a move, new baby, allergies or one of the many other reasons why pets end up in shelters," Harr said. "Powder's new family is experienced with cats. I think most of the applicants truly cared about adopting Powder, but when we stopped accepting applications for him due to the large amount we received no one was interested in adopting another homeless cat."Chunk was moved to a second foster home after media attention toward foster parent Debbie Wright and her family got out of hand, Harr said.

"Powder's new family lives in New Jersey and they will remain anonymous," she said.As for his overweight condition, a veterinarian determined that Chunk has just been grossly overfed and has no underlying medical problems such as diabetes, thyroid or endocrine problems."The vet has put him on a weight-loss program," Harr said. "The goal of which is for him to lose weight very slowly. His new family is dedicated to keeping him on the proper weight-loss plan in conjunction with their veterinarian to achieve his goal weight."Although Powder's future is a promising one, others will not be so fortunate. The Camden County Animal Shelter currently has more than 100 dogs and more than 200 cats in its shelter and in foster homes."We are still so very full of wonderful cats and dogs that unfortunately will not be as lucky as Powder," Harr said.
